A few weeks ago I posted a note on my blog about a little boy who was about to start Grade 1 whose mom was struggling to afford a school uniform for him. Within a few minutes of putting up the post, I got emails from some really wonderful people who offered to help out. One of the first people to respond was a remarkable young woman called Tracy who offered to contribute some money towards the young boy's school uniform.
Tracy Engelbrecht knows what it is like to be a young, single mom. She had her son when she was just 15 years old. Instead of letting that be a negative, scary thing she turned the experience into something positive to help others. She has written a book about her experience and has also started the Young Moms Support Group.
The Young Moms Support Group offers advice, support and practical assistance to young mothers all over South Africa. They do exactly what Tracy offered to do to the young mother of the little Grade 1 boy - help wherever they can. I think they are doing a wonderful thing.
To all those who offered to help the little boy out, he got his school uniform so he is ok. Please could you extend your generosity in the direction of the Young Moms Support group so that they can continue to help other young mothers. The support groups needs financial contributions as well as any gently used baby things (clothes / equipment) that they can pass on to the young moms.
If you can help in any way, or if you have some used baby things to contribute, please contact Tracy on [email protected] or 0729863105. Tracy will arrange a drop off place no matter where you are in the country.
As for the little boy, a wonderful, amazing woman called Adele Basson stepped right in at the beginning and took the mom and the little boy to buy a brand new school uniform for him. Out of her own pocket. Adele doesn't have children of her own, doesn't know me or the young mom from a bar of soap but she is the type of person who just likes to help others. (She volunteers for Reach for a Dream as well). Amazing.
I wish I could share the photo of the little boy in his school uniform on his first day, so that you can see how proud he was of himself. He is doing really well at school and was already reading within the first week!
Thank you to everyone who offered to help out. You are the citizens that make up the village that it takes to raise a child. Thank you. xx
Thank you Tertia. So glad to hear the little on is doing well. And 1000 thanks for mentioning Young Mom Support. We need all the help we can get :) x

What a coincidence. I have Tracy's book in my Kindle queue!
Glad to hear the little boy got his uniform.
