Not sure if they have this where you live, but here in Cape Town the Girl Guides Association offers a program called Teddies. It is basically Girl Guides for under 7s.
"Teddies have fun! They play games, paint, draw, make things, bake, sing, dance and listen to stories. They also learn about caring for others, themselves and the environment, whilst having fun. Teddies are 4.5 yrs - 7 yrs old."
There are meetings once a week and they do all sorts of stuff relating to the theme above. An eldery lady ("Mother Ted") runs the meeting, it is really sweet. Each girl has to bring a teddy to the meeting which they put in the middle of the circle when they do their news sharing or whatever it is.
Unfortunately Kate does not have a Teddy. Or a doll. So last week she brought a big 'fluffy' orange snake to Teddies. Which was bad enough, but at least it was kind of cute. This week she decided to bring her newest snake. A lifelike long rubber snake. Poor Mother Ted must be thinking WTF is going on here! (Actually, I don't think Mother Ted is the type of person to use the F word. She would probably be saying "oh deary me" or something like that. ODM. <--'oh deary me')
Here is Kate's 'teddy'. Love that child.
This is the funniest thing I've seen all day. Kate certainly is her own person!

My daughter (8) loves snakes also. She would love this "teddy" as well, though she really does have a teddy named "Teddy" that she's had since before she was born. Love these independent girls.
