Just finished the radio interview, was SOOO bloody nervous. I threw about half a bottle of rescue remedy down my throat before and I still was shaking like a leaf. I now have sweaty armpits.
I think the interview went well, the presenter was so divine, so laid back that she made it easier for me to not freak out.
Hahahahaaaaaaa!! Can’t believe I was just on the radio!!!
Oh, and the best part: She kept referring to me as ‘the author, Tertia Albertyn’ – I am an Author.
There were a few negative responses to the show, mostly along the lines of ‘listen all you infertile bitches, stop whining and just adopt’. But I guess that was to be expected. They had a very good therapist on the show who absolutely completely ‘got’ what infertility was all about, she was excellent.
Damn. That was nerve wracking but also v exhilarating. I think I need a glass of wine now. It is after 12:00.
My mom was listening in the kitchen (I was at her house to escape the babes), my dad in garage, Rose in my kitchen and Marko in his car. Everyone said I sounded fine, except for Marko who said “you could have mentioned how divine your husband is”. Asshole!
Oh, one teeny little problem, they are going to be putting my blog address on their website, I almost feel as if I have to run around tiding things up around here, removing all the ‘F’ words and taking down the naked pictures of myself. Almost.
Ok, off to have that glass of wine! Phew, glad that’s over with.
Signed:
The Author.
Hi Tertia,
Don't think that I have ever posted before... I listened to bits and pieces - Meg and Sam were not being very co-operative. You came across extremely well and certainly didn't sound at all nervous! Well done! b.t.w if you ever get bored of your daytime job, you could always consider becoming a radio presenter!
lots of love!

When I was
thirteen years old
I was on a
Nickelodean gameshow
called
"Double Dare".
I had to introduce myself
but I couldn't get
the words out:
I like art, and writing
and i play the cello
I like art, and writing
and i play the cello.
See.
I still remember.
And empathise.
In a small way, anyway.

"The Author formerly known as Tertia". Hmmm, sort of has a certain ring to it ;) I'm so glad it went well! I tink you definitely deserve a nice glass of wine =)

You sound so much more credible now Tertia The Author! I wanted to listen, honest, but I'm in California and, well, the time thing. Does the station archive interviews or anything?
Sooo happy it went well. Can't wait to see YOU on Good Morning America.

Congrats on a job well-done! I'm so glad that the interview went well and that everything was "divine". We're all so proud of you...
Posted by: JennG | 10 June 2006 at 03:55 PM
I loved when she said "I'm here with the author, Tertia Albertyn. Lets talk a little about your book". I wanted to run around waking people up and telling them I knew you. You did so good. You didn't sound a bit nervous (although I was nervous. How stupid is that?) or nasal-y.
You did great! I was so glad I got to listen. Thank you for sharing the link.

i'm such an asshole - i did the math wrong and missed your show. and i used to LIVE in your timezone! ugh, any chance of a transcript? well, to make up for it, i'm going to buy the book you recommended. congrats on challenging yourself, i can imagine how great you must feel today!
Posted by: sabrina | 10 June 2006 at 04:40 PM
NOOOOOOOOOOO stupid time zones! I missed it worse luck, but am v v glad it went so well any chance of a transcript? or better yet sound file recording?
Posted by: Jennie | 10 June 2006 at 05:08 PM
Congratulations Tertia. I knew you could do it. I hope the rest of the weekend is VERY relaxing to counterbalance all the stress.
And, don't change a thing.

I made a point of getting up at 3am to be able to hear the broadcast. Tertia, you sounded sublimely composed!
I managed to record the segment in MP3 format, but given that I've never recorded anything from the computer before, don't have the skill to make 40 minutes (over 70MB) easily e-mailable (ie. cut out commercials and whatnot). If someone out there is technically inclined and wants to help prepare the file so that we can share it with everyone, I'd be happy to send my recording.
Cheers!
Gudrun

The file is only 20MB. Sorry. I was remembering 70 from my fuzzy middle-of-the-night brain.
Posted by: Gudrun | 10 June 2006 at 05:37 PM
don't clean up! that would ruin the distinct "flavor" your blog has!!!!!
Posted by: jenny | 10 June 2006 at 06:07 PM
Gudrun, I'd love to hear the recording if you can get it in an easily shareable format.
Tertia, congratulations! You're a star (although we already knew that!)!
Posted by: Colleen | 10 June 2006 at 06:11 PM
Fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck!!!!
(Ooops. Now I just gave you more to "clean up". :P)
I missed it, dammit!
There has to be some techie reader here that can help Gudrun share the MP3 with us asshats that missed it.
Please, please, pretty please... Come out of lurkdom if you must!
Glad it went well, Tertia. Once you gulp down enough wine to digest what actually took place, tell us all about how great it was. Please do tell us more about the buttheads that called in with their stupidity, though. I'd love to hear your comebacks. ;)

Tertia - I just heard the news. Love that you are an author and congrats on the interview. Now I'll have to figure out how to get my hands on one of your books. I'm totally happy for you and love that this is working out for you.
Posted by: Cheryllynn | 10 June 2006 at 07:48 PM
Call me crazy - I would never deny it. I stayed up until 4:00 a.m. to listen to the interview in the US. I was so excited that I could not wait to post so I posted under "Come Back."
Anyway, for all of you that did not get a chance to listen, Tertia really was fantastic. Her voice was confident and feminine. I absolutely love her accent. Now I think of her babies and their sweet accents. Love it.
One male caller evidentally wanted everyone to adopt. Sort of like, hey if you want a kid there are several million orphans, what's all the whining about? As in, what is the big deal having a biological kid, how selfish.
The radio announcer was gracious in handling him and Tertia responded perfectly. I will let her fill you in.
Tertia, you did mention how divine Marko is. When you stated that, "He wouldn't dare." I understood that to be in reference to him being sensitive to your needs during IVF. And all women love a man who can be sensitive.
We love you too Marko. Does that help?

Oops! I misspelled evidently. I am still recovering from staying up so late. It was worth it.
Posted by: Sharon | 10 June 2006 at 09:07 PM
Yeah! I knew you'd do great - I'll anxiously await, hoping someone will help you post the interview. You're going to be famous! Congratulations,
Amanda Lynn

What is Rescue Remedy? And does it work in all circumstances?
Posted by: Wendy Noel | 10 June 2006 at 10:15 PM
Hooray Tertia for getting the word out, sweaty pits and all! I'm so sorry I missed it. Any chance of a recording I can listen to later?
Posted by: Flicka | 10 June 2006 at 11:12 PM
I didn't get to listen to all of it because it was on around the time of baby bedtime here but you sounded great and not at all nervous. Very confident and authoritive. And I was also really impressed how the presenter kept saying "The author". Very cool!
I have some webspace I could post the recording of your interview on if no one else volunteered yet.

Is there a link to their website? Will they have a write-up of it? Congrats!

You may be "the author, Tertia Albertyn" to some, but to me you'll always be:
"that asshole"

Complete Asshole! The Author....You were super....are you still going to mix with us plebs??? The Best Friend
Posted by: Mel | 11 June 2006 at 08:05 PM
Oh Tertia - I video taped your interview on DSTV audio channel so I was able to listen and rewind and listen again and you were absolutely brilliant. I just knew you were going to bring up that fact that the "just relax" comment was the most hurtful - well done, I was jumping around my lounge in excitement! I was also impressed with the calm way you handled the horrid sms and the guy who phoned and insisted infertiles not waste money on treatment but should rather adopt - I really don't think I would have been able to keep my cool. Congrats again!!!!
Posted by: Trish | 11 June 2006 at 09:07 PM
What the heck is 'rescue remedy?' Is that code for a shot of whiskey with a beer chaser? Anyway, congrats! Glad it went smoothly for you!
Posted by: Bec | 12 June 2006 at 01:05 AM
If I can get someone to send me the MP3 file via yousendit.com to [email protected] I can upload it to the account I use for my podcast hosting and post the link for everyone to download/stream.

Don't wanna say I told you so (that you'd be fab) but...I think I did mention it.
Congrats to my fave author.

Jade -- If you could post a recording or transcript of Tertia's interview, that would be fantastic!! I don't think anyone has volunteered yet -- except for you! :)
For Wendy and Bec who asked about Rescue Remedy....It is a "Bach Flower Remedy" (And "Bach" is pronounced "Batch".) Here is the official website which explains it all, and gives more info on each individual remedy itself. The remedies are usually sold separately, like Walnut, Heather, etc. But in the case of the "Rescue Remedy" it is a general sort of "all purpose" combination of five different flower remedies together (Cherry Plum, Clematis, Impatiens, Rock Rose, and Star of Bethlehem) which together help deal with any emergency or stressful event. Taking a driving test, exam nerves, speaking in public, after an accident or an argument - there are countless uses for Rescue Remedy.
In an emergency Rescue Remedy can be taken neat from the bottle, four drops at a time, and as frequently as required. Otherwise put four drops in a glass of water and take frequent sips until the emotions have calmed. (as taken from the website description)
http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/remedies.htm
There's also a "Rescue Cream" which contains the same extracts, that can be applied topically to scratches or bruises, etc. You can purchase Bach Flower Remedies at Health food stores and vitamin stores, etc.
Tertia -- congrats on the succesful interview! That is so exciting. Forgive me for asking, but I haven't read all of your blog, so what book(s) have you written? Are they available to purchase?
Posted by: VanillaDreams | 12 June 2006 at 10:01 AM
Oh, bless you people for recording - I'm off for a listen!
And congrats, Tertia for feeling so good about the interview! I'll tell you if I approve after I hear it. Hahaha. As if. I'm sure you rocked!
