I'm sure you've all heard of, or seen the video clip taken at Kruger (large game reserve here in South Africa) where lions and a crocodile wrestle over a buffalo calf. But if you haven't, check this out. It's amazing.

Incredible and amazing! And how touching to see the herd of buffalos fighting for the little one... Thanks for sharing it Tertia. I've been to Kruger once and it was really an experience of a lifetime.

My goodness. Everyone involved looked superpissed. I have to say I didn't know lions could fly.

Wow. That was quite amazing.

Hi Tertia... I just wanted to tell you about another incredible YOU TUBE flick relating to infertility I thought you'd appreciate... here's the link:-

I know you'll be able to relate.

That was really cool. Thanks for posting it. I was rooting for the baby, and was impressed that all those buffalo made a stand against the lions.

Somewhere halfway I wanted to stop watching. Couldn't believe you wanted us to see that calf die. I KNOW lions have to eat meat to survive, but that doesn't mean I actually want to see it on a Saturday afternoon.
So I turned away and told my bf this was so un-like your blog and started reading the comments to see how all readers felt about this. At the same time I saw that herd coming back in the corner of my eye! All happy now, thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see SA with my own eyes some day, preferrably searching for words like the people in that jeep: "I've never seen anything like this..." :-)

Wow.

Oh my god, Tertia, that was almost unbearable. I was shrieking at my computer screen. (Yes, I'm dignified like that.) At first, I just wanted the lions to put the calf to death quickly and mercifully. Then when the crocs got hold of it I was sure it was dead. Then when the herd came back and started harassing the lions I was thinking, RIght on! Get revenge! You're bigger and you have horns! (Because I'm very rational.) And then I was wondering why big prey animals don't act like that more often. And THEN WHEN THE GUY SAID "THE CALF IS STILL ALIVE" I started screaming. I couldn't stand it. STILL ALIVE? THAT POOR ANIMAL. Tertia, I've never seen a fictional movie that upset me as much. And then when the buffalo GOT THE CALF BACK, Jesus Christ, I just about had a heart attack. I can't stand all this excitement. I have to go have a lie down now.

That was astonishing to watch. Absolutely amazing footage. I definately had my money on the lions! The little buffalo will have a story and a half to tell the grandkids!

That was about a million times better than some National Geographic special with a narrator saying all sorts of anthropomorpic gibberish in the voice over. The cooperation among the animals was astounding. I don't think I've ever seen one where the buffalo win. That was great. Thanks for sharing.

Here I was getting all weepy for the poor baby buffalo and then bam...mom and dad save the day. It was amazing to see them work together to save their baby. Thanks for sharing.

That was tough to watch. Half way thru, right after the crocodiles, I was yelling "I don't LIKE nature", but then the buffalo came and got back the baby and I was all "you GO buffalo!" and screaming at the computer. Because evidentally I'm insane. It was amazing footage, but now I feel like I need to go take a Xanax because my heart is beating way too fast and I'm all riled up!
One more reason not to go on Safari, I think.

I saw this a few weeks ago. Isn't it amazing? I hope the baby buffalo was okay...he went through lots of abuse before he was rescued!

Ooh, apparently I was the only one rooting for the lions.

akeeyu-I was actually feeling kind of bad for the lions also(lions only have 20% success on hunts), they have to work so hard for their food and they have hungry babies to feed too.

That was amazing! I couldn't believe it when they got the calf back too! If it wasn't that I didn't want to wake anyone at home, I would've been screaming too!

thanks for sharing. i just hope that sweet calf doesnt die from infection etc. unbelievable that she was still alive at all...but then to be able to walk? why werent her endtrails falling out? those lions have a lot to learn.

I always thought I would love to go on an African Safari... after seeing that, not so much. It was awesome that they rescued the baby, but man, that was stressful. And that was watching it on my computer monitor at work... can't imagine seeing that in person. I also think I need to go lie down for a bit and get my heart rate back to normal.

what a mom and dad won't do for their child/ren. I taught lions rule the jungle? I bet they'll always remember not to mess with a buffalo, cause they certain will have to mess with them all. I beleive the buffalo have a home remedy for that baby to get her strength back. As for the croc I think he is a coward just like the lions. GREAT PIECE ON ANIMAL LIVING! THANK U
