Two hours later,
back again. Same bed, different child.
And what a different child it is. I can’t get over how totally different my kids are. Kate is so calm, so brave, so confident. Even the nurses were laughing at how different the two are. Between pukes she was singing and dancing and entertaining everyone.
Anyway, so here I am, back in bloody isolation. Kate started puking this afternoon. Inevitable I guess. Thank goodness it looks like a 24 hour thing, judging on how fine Adam was.
As I was saying…. What a way to spend your long weekend.
Sigh.
Oh, I must tell you something funny. I bought her a new doll today and said that we need to find a name for the doll. I said ‘how about Susan? Susan is nice name for a doll’. So she said ‘no Mom, its name is Harrison’. And that’s that. The doll is now Harrison. V funny.
Off to force my body into a pretzel shape in order to try find a comfy position on the chair. The price of being tall.
Nighty night my
friends, please put in a request that we can go home soon and not be back for a
looong time.
(please note Harrison alongside Kate)

OH, NO!!! Gosh, that's too bad. I hope she is feeling much better soon, and I hope you don't get permanently pretzel-shaped from the chair...

Best wishes with round 2. Hopefully, nothing more than 24 hours.
Kate is so sweet!

Just out of curiosity, why are they admitting the kids to the hospital for a stomach virus after only a few hours of vomiting? Is that a SA thing? I know here in the US, when my kids get a stomach bug, they have to become dehydrated before they are admitted and IV'd. That means the kid has to have been puking for at least 24 hours, be taking no liquid, and have had no pee in 24 hours (at this age, age 2--of course an infant is different!!) Usually, if you call and say "my kid is puking and won't stop" they say "give him a few teaspoons of pedialyte every 15 minutes and call us tomorrow if he hasn't peed since he started vomiting."
Poor kids. :( Poor mom. I know the 1 time I had to have ds IV'd, it was a nightmere. Yes, I had to help hold him down. (shudder)

Oh, I'm so sorry!!!! AUGH!!! How frustrating -- not only that you are there again, but also that poor Kate is sick, too. :(
I really hope Kate gets better soon so you can go HOME and be done with the hospital for (hopefully) a very, very long time!

You, my friend, are in need of a vacation. Sans-kids.

I feel your pain....both of my kids have spent time in the hospital as babies and I would hardly even leave the room, not to mention actually going home. I'm curious too about the medical practices in SA since I had to scream bloody murder to get treatment for my son when he had a camphylobacter infection. He was 18 mos old and after 24 hrs of nonstop diarreah I took him to the doctor, they basically didn't want to do anything, telling me it was just a virus. After I pitched a sufficient fit, they agreed to do a stool culture and discovered it was actually bacterial, and finally he got antibiotics after 4 days of pure misery. He lost 15% of his body weight in a week and he was so sick I ended up taking him to the emergency room before the doctors office called back with the trst results and the prescription. But the ER didn't treat him, said he wasn't really dehydrated and blah blah blah and sent us home. I was scared to death. And I have good health insurance through my employer, so it wasn't a money issue. And neither kid was ever sick enough to go to the doctor very often, so when I said he was sick I expected to be taken seriously. Bah.

I was also wondering if it is common to take kids to the hospital for the stomach bug there??? I know my kids have had the vomiting for 2 days and they won't even take them at the dr unless they stop peeing or are so lethargic that can't function. Must be a regional thing ??? I find it interesting that they take them in for that!

I'm responding late to this, even after your updates on the situation...
So glad that everyone is fine and well again. I feel the same way when my kids are sick like that - it's much better to err on the side of caution and take them to the doctor or ER. Well done.
P.S. What's this with the name 'Susan'? You name your offending body parts Susan. You name a doll Susan. There's got to be a story there somewhere.
