The poor kids have RSV. Nice. No
wonder they have been such miserable pains in the ass. I feel terrible for spanking them now. JOKE! Although the part about them being pains in the ass is not a joke. I have to be honest here and say that sick
kids suck. I mean, I do feel sorry for
them, but oh my WORD, they can whinge.
Below are a few snippets (9 second long) of my little bundles of sunshine
today. Having the time of my life at the
moment. I am on leave and Rose is away on vacation. Lucky Rose. Last night was fabulous. I think
we (Marko and I) had about 20 minutes sleep in total. Housebound for the entire week of our leave
with little or no sleep and two sick whingy kids. You can imagine how well the two of us are
getting on at the moment.
Poor Kate has it worse than Adam, and had to go for physio today where
they pat the kids’ backs. And then she
had to have a tube shoved down her nose to take some tests. My poor baby. It was traumatic for both of us; I had to hold her down while they did
it. That is the worst thing ever,
holding your kid down while they beg you to stop the lady from hurting
them. I nearly wept. We were both
sweating afterwards.
Fun! Can’t wait for the rest of
the weekend.
(Happy Clappers – you will be pleased to know that I even prayed last
night. Yip, I am that desperate. I spoke to The Lord and asked him to make my
kids well again. I hate seeing my kids
sick. I figured perhaps The Lord can
pick up where The Paed left off)
PS It has now been four days and Kate has eaten nothing. As in literally not a single thing. Thank goodness she is still on the two bottles of formula a day, so I know she is getting at least some nutrients. I am not even stressing about it anymore (liar) because it doesn’t help. Hopefully she will eat again sometime soon. Hopefully before she starves to death.
PPS Please note the annoying cat also milling around my feet for attention. There is always a crowd around my feet. Sigh.

Ugh ugh RSV :( I'm so sorry that your house is sick.

Those are some unhappy babes. I'm so sorry. Maybe now that they have been diagnosed they will have something to make them feel better? Tylenol or Motrin?
One of mine is sick too but not nearly like this. Hang in there.

Oooooo! They're so SWEET! And I can hear their little accents, too! (Don't you want to break my nose with the edge of your hand?)
Seriously--I know, Tersh. These are rough times, x2. I hated the tummy viruses worst of all, since they got sick in sequence so we spent an entire 7-10 days picking chunks of baby hurl out of our hair and jammie pockets.
Hope the babies get well quickly and you get some rest sometime soon.

RSV is the devil. I am so sorry that they are so sick.
Good news though, if today is better than yesterday then they may be on the way back to health. With RSV it gets really bad and peaks on the worst day and then it gets better everyday.
Hugs and prayers

How sad they are so sick, but good for you for staying on top of it and getting a diagnosis.

I'm grateful that they're not still preemie babies—RSV can be so scary. Miserable clingy whinging kids + sleep-deprived parents = yuck, yes, but at least they're well enough to be sick at home rather than in the hospital. (Hooray for me! I minimize your suffering! Am winner friend!)
Most people don't have much appetite when they're sick. Kate will eat again when she's feeling better. I promise.
You know what? I had a tube shoved in my nose a couple weeks ago. I swear that thing snaked in at least 10 inches (25 cm)—and then again on the other side. And nobody was there to hold me! I was a very brave girl, though. It helps to not be two years old, definitely.

Poor little mites.
I hope they are both better soon!

Ugh. RSV sucks -- do you have to do that nasty nebulizer thing? Hope they're feeling better soon.

I'm SO sorry for you -- sorry, too, for Adam and Kate, but much more sorry for you! (They are gorgeous, even when "whingy!") I hate when my kids get sick, but I hate when my husband gets sick EVEN MORE! Worst baby of all 3!
Have a huge glass of wine, if you can, and tell yourself that which does not kill us, makes us stronger. Big hugs across the globe to you!

Oh god you poor thing.
Hope you have plenty of wine around.
I remember those days...it sucks.
My sympathies are with you!

My daughter is about a week younger than your two, and we also had the pleasure of RSV earlier this year. But in a one-in-a-million stroke of bad luck, she also became septic as the RSV was developing and spent a week in the ICU on a vent after almost crashing in the ER. So, yeah, RSV sucks. I hope your kids are feeling their best soon.

my little 2 week old newborn caught that this year too and ended up in the PICU and was intubated :(

Ye gods, I think my tubes just tied themselves.

RSV sucks big time - my kids did not eat for 2 weeks, had physio everyday, but then all of a sudden they were better, kids seem to get sick and better very quickly. Aerin was given Synergis (vacination against RSV) last year, but our motivation has been declined for this season and am shit scared she is going to get it again this year. Have given them a mini flu injection and Moducare and so far so good!

Hoping they feel better very soon, and that you two get some sleep!

Sick kids do suck. I'm sorry for you and your little ones, and hope everybody at your house is feeling better soon. We're doing the sick thing at our house now too...

You poor old thing! My little bugger...sorry son, also had Really Sucky Virus and Bronchiolitis last week and had two nights in hospital over Easter (rite of passage as a parent!) I am so sick of sick children, am considering placing child in plastic bubble. Luckily my arsehole...sorry husband, stayed home to look after the little one this week, so he's back to his remote hiding, dog terrorising self now (son, not husband....)
I walked out of the room and refused to help during the tube down the nose bit....does that make me a bad mummy?
Posted by: Essi | 14 April 2007 at 11:25 PM
Ag, moeder...
That is the SADDEST thing I have ever seen. Get well babies.

Having sick kids surely sucks! I can empathise and sympathise about the pipe up the nose thing. My little one had a problem with constipation, and they also tried to put the pipe up her nose, and she would have nothing of it. With three nurses and myself, she still managed to get out of their grip and pull it out.
I wasn't as strong as you, I cried like a baby myself. Couldn't handle it, like you say, she was calling "Mommy" and crying, and wanting me to help her. Not a joke. Don't wish it on anyone.
I'm thinking I should get my one vaccinated if possible, maybe at least the flu vaccine, as I've never heard of this virus until now.
Scary!

So sorry that the little ones are sick. I know what you mean about having to play the evil parent -- I had to hold my daughter down while her blood was drawn for a lead test (we live in an old house). They blew the vein on the first arm and had to go to the second. I had the lucky job of having to lie across my daughter's chest so she wouldn't move. And this was after a visit where she'd had FIVE shots for a well baby visit. I don't think I've ever had a worse day in my life, and I'm sure that she thought it was a pretty sucky day too.

I had a nose swab at age 22 and still you mention it and I develop a tick in my eye. I swear it swabs your brain. Regarding your video clips, thank you. I often think that parents only document those absolute sacrin moments, deluding others into thinking that their own sprog is a mutant who drives them into hiding in the loo smoking secret fags while everyone else is happily truckin on. I am now going to post a picture of my son throwing a wobbler even though in doing this I am documenting that this is the only state when he looks anything like me.
Always appreciating your spirit and candour x
