Was a big day yesterday. I swam in a swimming pool and wore a bikini for the first time in almost three years. Was divine!
First I was pg with the boys, then I lost Luke then bed rest, then Ben, then the horrible loss and mourning, then it was the IVF, then pg with the babes and the whole bed rest thing, then the hectic first year and now finally, after almost three years I can swim in a swimming pool* AND I can wear a bikini**.
Yay me!
The babes also swam yesterday, here are pics of them in their 'bikinis'. Wouldn’t want to put you off your breakfast by posting pics of myself in a bikini. Oh, and those uncut edges of the lawn - my BIL's house, not mine. We would *never* have uncut lawn verges ;-) Although he redeemed himself by perfectly grilling my tuna steak kebabs. Or translated into South Africanese - "he did a lekker job of braaiing my sosaties"
*The swimming pool thing I didn’t do cos I was scared the water would go up my cooter and make me lose the babies. Yes, I was that paranoid. Now of course I could care less if whole pools full of water goes up there. Not that it will. Or that my cooter is that loose and flappy that pools of water WOULD go up there, but you know what I mean.
**I mean ‘can’ in the loosest sense of the word. Not ‘loose’ as in loose twin skin belly (which I currently sport), but loose as perhaps I shouldn’t really be wearing a bikini but I can and will if I want to because I’m grown up and can do any thing I want to do. And because the damn braces have been a bit of a diet aid. Am a mere 4 and a half pounds away from my goal weight, ironically enough the exact amount removed from Rose’s chest

I am so proud of you! The very fact that you feel willing to wear your bikini speaks volumes of how good you look, especially with how realistic you are when you view yourself. I will race you on those last 4 1/2 pounds. I had them licked, but they found me again. I just wanted to say that your Durbanville kinderhuis seems amazing. I sponsored a child. Happy Sinterklaas everyone!

I love hearing about your summer moments as I listen to the weatherman report it's only -2 degrees (F) outside...*sigh*

We had snow last week, down around 2C here, but -20C at my SIL in Alberta... Hmmm... wonder if Adam was putting the the "p" in pool (ha ha ha). He has that look on his face.

What a great post- tis is what I love about non-American women. So many American women feel they have to look like a Supermodel to be seen in a bikini. The first time I ever had the guts to wear one was when I was backpacking through Europe for a summer and saw other women with average looking bodies wearing bikinis and not being self-conscious. It was quite liberating to realize that if they could do it, so could I. I wish there was a way to bottle that comfort level and hand it out to all the women out there who struggle with their body image.

Did the olive shrink with the weightloss? Good for you feeling O.k about getting into a bikini. No way I would, have to lose a bit more flab first.

I told you the braces would do that! I lost 40 lbs. Braces gone, gained 25 lbs. Must have the braces replaced. No not really, even the weight loss wasn't worth the pain in my mouth.

I'm having troubles looking at the babes because all I can see are VERY SKINNY HOT HOT HOT LEGS.

Holy Renee Zellwegger, Batman, that was some fast work with the diet!

We are expecting 6-8 inches of snow tonight and you're talking about pools and bikinis. Way strange being in touch with someone halfway around the world. :)
So glad to hear about you being comfy in your summer attire! I gotta' get me some braces. Or a really good stomach virus. Or some lipo. ;)

WOW - if it doesn't have a skirt, I don't look at it for myself! You go with your bikini-clad self! YAY you!

I am a mere 14.5 lbs from my ideal weight--no bikinis here. Good for you! I am so impressed.

BIKINI!!!!!!! Lucky Duck you!! I am still sporting my maternity bathing suit which looks more like a dress with Empire Waist than a bathing suit!!!!

A bikini? Feh. That's nothing. You come back and tell us when you start skinny-dipping, girl! (Don't forget to slather sunscreen on your ass so you can still sit down.)

Am calling to have braces installed tomorrow, even though I already had them in the ninth grade. Think I could lose 15 lbs. by next Friday? If I get them really, really tight?
Congrats on the bikini - its great to have a tanned belly!

Those bubbies of yours just keep getting cuter and cuter! Kate's little face is really looking gorgeous now - taking after her mother, is she? And Adam's so cheeky and beautiful! He'll be quite the lady-killer when he grows up.
Good on your for getting out in your togs, well done. Who cares what people think?€
Also, is it bad that when you said your braces were a good diet aid, I thought "Hey, maybe I should get braces!"?

Hi Tertia,
Totally off topic, although we were also in the pool this weekend (but I stopped short of donning a bikini): I need your help.
My blog is a finalist in the 2005 Weblog awards and the voting started today! I'm up against some stiff competition in the Middle East and Africa category. Please encourage your readers to vote for me at 6000 miles form civilisation and help put Cape Town on the blogging map.

Just wanted to post that I am jealous that you are in South Africa where it is warm, for one. Here in Wisconsin it is 3 degrees. Yeah, you want to come visit. And that you have the most adorable babies.
I know you didn't write it in this post but don't worry that Kate isn't crawling yet. Some babies never do, they just got right to walking. They are perfect and are their own little people.
I have been a "lurker" on your site for a while and am a big fan.

Holy crap... They are getting so big Tertia!! I remember when you were blogging from your cell about Adam not coming home...
And how small they were...
Look at them now...
Hell of a job mom & dad!! HELL of a job.
BTW congrats on the bikini!! I have a thousand kilometers to run before I'm back to that. (I would say miles but then it would be less...haha)
