Night four wasn’t too bad.
Night five – last night, he slept through! I think. I know, sounds ridiculous – how can I not know if he slept through or not….. I am just so damn tired I honestly can’t remember from one night to the next.
I think I got up to put Kate’s dummy back last night, but I don’t think he woke up at all. Well, I didn’t get up for him. He cried at about 8pm, for five mins, that was it. I think.
Woooo hoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! It’s working.
Kate is being a real little madam lately – quite a little temper she is building there. It is actually so flipping cute, Rose and I laugh at her all the time. It is just so funny seeing it coming from her. We are used to Adam being full of shit, but Kate is normally so sweet.
She is sooooooooo cute. She shouts at us now. If she gets bored (about 5 mins) with sitting where ever she is sitting she will start shouting at us. And the facial expressions!!! Oh my word, they are unbelievable. I keep telling her ‘Dahling, mommy is going to have go invest in Botox if you keep screwing up your face like that! Wrinkles dahling, watch the wrinkles’ My parents have taken my camera with them overseas, and so I am missing out on lots of cute photo ops. Damn.
The babes have started to take notice of each other, when they look at each other they start laughing, it is achingly cute. Adam is v rough though, when he gets close to Kate he pulls her bib, or grabs her top etc, and then she hisses at him, its hysterical. I don’t know where she gets that from.
This morning Kate was not that cute, she has started waking up at 4:30/5 and complaining that she wants to be picked up. All while Adam is still sleeping! This morning I left her for a while then went to go fetch her and bring her to bed with me, pretending to sleep. I opened one eye very slightly to see what she was doing and she was waiting for me to open my eyes and then she gives me this huge grin. Madam!
I must say that you guys were right, there as been a marked improvement in Adam’s disposition since he has been getting some decent sleep at night. In fact I think Kate and him might have swapped roles – he is getting easier and she is getting to be a bit of a PITA. Although I secretly love the spirit she is showing – you go girl.
Damn! My babies are flipping cute. Really. I am not just saying that cos I am the mother ;-)

WhaHOOOOO! You go T!
Oh, gosh, are you going to have to train Kate now? Is she getting jealous of all the "attention" that Adam is (not) getting at night?? :)
I hope it's a fluke and you'll have both babes sleeping straight through so you can catch up on sleep.

my twins periodically switched personalities when they were babies - it was very strange! I would think - you used to be the sweet/easy one, what happened??? So glad you are getting some sleep. Will you send some my way?
love,
Molly

You *sound* so much more rested, T! I'm so happy to hear that Adam has adjusted to the New Plan, and is being slightly less of a PITA. ;-)
How funny that Kate has become such a little pistol. I'm sure that attitude will serve her well later in life - nobody will push her around! ;-)

I so can relate to what you are saying about loving the new Kate. My little girl was always so run over by her big brother, and one day she stood up to him, pushed him back, and told him off in toddler babble. All I could do was smile and be proud.
And I'm so happy for your entire family that Adam is getting better sleep. You never realize how it's affecting all of you until you can look back on it.

Glad to hear it's working!! Happy happy for the Tertia family!

Yes your babies are flipping cute. Can't believe they are almost teenagers already (well that's what it feels like ok!?) Well done on the sleep training. Hope it continues in this vein! Love you.

YAY!!
Posted by: elana | 10 August 2005 at 03:43 PM
I'm so thrilled for you! You are all getting more sleep and that is wonderful. And it is nice to see you writing about the joys of Adam and Kate's personalities instead of the misery of exhaustion. Both are your truths and I totally respect you for being honest, but as your friend I'm exceedingly happy that you get to focus on the positive instead of on the exhaustion!
Yay!
PS - and way to go Kate for getting some one on one time with your mommy, even if it is a bit of PITA behavior that has done it! :)

This post made me grin. I'm so happy for you.
I love it when babies "shout" at their parents...too cute.
Posted by: reenie | 10 August 2005 at 03:59 PM
They are, they are unbelievably cute.
Your post simultaneously made me long for twins (how COOL to see them discovering and interacting with each other) and wonder how the hell you do it (they take turns being PsITA!!!).
Your current poll should have options for combination answers. I.e. thongs are BOTH essential to prevent VPL AND a PITA. You should have it set up like one of those standardized tests with options like "both A and B," "A, C and D but not B," "all of the above," etc. People would really enjoy that, because we all love a good standardized test.

Of course your babies are adorable! We all think that! Why do you think we come here (oh, yeah, you're pretty funny, too!). Hope you get your camera back soon.

Hi T, great to hear that Adam is giving you a break, and I wonder just where Kate gets that hissing from ;0)
Posted by: Leigh | 10 August 2005 at 05:47 PM
Excellant! And I hope others in your situation will take heart to try and do the same (and I also hope all the Moms who scream that CIO is an awful terrible thing will realize "different strokes for different folks" - as they stumble thru their OWN exhausting days and nights!).
I was thinking, as Rose hopes not to carry her weighted girls into 2006, perhaps you could book the surgery for November - and cancel should the funds not be available?
As far as needing temp. help while she recovers, perhaps there will be some funds left to assist with that aspect, also. Would Rose be able to be there, at your home, to supervise whoever you are able to get? She knows their routines and "quirks". The babes and you would probaly feel better if she were at least there, no?
And how is the "pot" growing? With all your computer know-how perhaps you could put up a chart or such to show how close (!!) to goal it is getting. I still think this is a wonderful thing you are doing.
How were you blessed to "find" Rose to begin with?

Do you have disposable cameras in SA? Might want to pick one up, pictures don't have to be digital, the old "take them in for developing" still works wonders! (heheheh) Big hugs to your for your new sleep cycle with Adam. This will be nothing compared to what is in store in the years to come! (they don't call it the terrible twos for nothing) Did you schedule the operation for Rose?
Posted by: Louise M | 10 August 2005 at 06:50 PM
Uh oh... I totally forgot to warn you (based on the experience of various friends; WTF does a NOPE like me know?) that twins sometimes trade being "difficult" - for example, while one had colic, the other was an angel, and when the colic was over, the former angel became very high-maintenance...
What does VPL stand for?
Posted by: unexplained | 10 August 2005 at 08:10 PM
It could be that Kate was used to the disturbances during the night and needs to grow accustomed to the new pattern.
Congrats on the sleep success!

Hooray! I'm so happy for you!!! Getting more sleep is wonderful for you and for baby! I'm also glad to hear that it wasn't soo bad.
We all knew you could do it. And you did! Hooray, again!!!

Great news. You will one day look back on this whole experience, tears and all, as the beginning of your successful parenting stuff: hard to go through, but harder in the long run to avoid.

VPL = visible panty line
Hey, wonder if sweet Kate was just backing off cause she knew Adam was overstressing you. Now that Adam's being all angelic-like, she wants her due! heheh.
Your babes are so G&D!

Yipppppeeeeee! Count me in as another one who says
"I KNEW you could do it!!!!" Yipppppeeeee!
Now, as for Kate picking up where Adam left off? Oh no. As the mom of a singleton, I have no assvice for that, whatsoever! LOL!

Yay Tertia! Yay Adam!!!
And yay for Kate, that darling little girl...It's as if she's saying "Yeah, he's a total PITA, but don't forget about me!!! ME!!!!" Good on her. :)

Perhaps time to introduce daughter to the program? ;) My twins did that too. One would invariably be the 'devil', until it flip flopped once more. They like to keep us on our toes those little rugrats!

When the kiddies are happy, mom is happy too. Can totally feel a well rested T coming thru the pc. Job well done.

Re your poll - here thongs are things you wear on the beach in summer - we call the other things 'g strings' as in 'gee that is right up my bum'
Posted by: andrea | 11 August 2005 at 09:45 AM
Mazel Tov, T.!
I am so happy for you that Adam is sleeping and so are you!
BTW... my twinks also flip personality traits as time goes on and my Samantha is a big freakin' faker too!
She will whine for attention (we call it fake crying!). I call her my little faker/drama queen.... i have no idea where she gets it from.
Also, when i put them next to each other (no matter where it is) Evan is the one who tries to hold her hand or touch her. (It is so god damned cute!) He is so enthralled by Samantha he seems mesmerized sometimes, yet she could not care less about him.
Happy day for T...
BTW... don't be surprised if Adam back-pedals a little at some point. Just ride it out and let him soothe (read as: cry) himself back to sleep.
Yayyyyyyyyyyy!
