That’s the sound of the oven timer going off. Tomorrow (Friday) is the babies’ fully baked date. They were only supposed to come out the oven tomorrow. And tomorrow they will be four weeks old. Can’t believe it’s been four weeks already.
Today they went for their well baby check and they are both doing beautifully. They have both gained 2.2 pounds (1 kg) since their birth, good huh! Kate is now 3.6 kg / 7.9 lb and Adam is 3.88 kg / 8.55 lb. Little porkers.
Last night Kate cried from 6 until 10pm, then Adam from 10 till 12:30am. Then we slept from 12:30 to 2am, fed from 2 to 3, slept from 3 till 5. Not a whole lot of sleeping going on in this house. My kind mother allowed me to have a three hour nap today, so I feel like a new person.
Here is a pic of Adam and Marko, can you see the resemblance? Usually babies just look like, well babies, but Adam has such distinctive looks, he is Marko’s mini me.
And a pic of the babes sleeping. Aren’t they angelic looking when they are sleeping.

Wow, the resemblance is striking!
Posted by: Amanda | 03 February 2005 at 08:16 PM
Wait a minute -- both babies are asleep and you are up taking their picture? Uh-uh. Nope. Go take a nap right now, young lady.
That boy sure does look like his Daddy! I have one of those matched sets too. Dads really like that, don't they?
Posted by: JenAtHome | 03 February 2005 at 08:19 PM
Yes, the resemblance is marked, but more striking is that Marko's pic ought to be in the dictionary under "dead tired". Heh.
Posted by: ginger | 03 February 2005 at 08:20 PM
They're not sleeping....they're recharging! Go take another nap!
Posted by: Karen C. | 03 February 2005 at 08:26 PM
Love the pictures. He does look like his daddy. They are so sweet.

Tertia
What a hunk! And the babies are beautiful, just gorgeous. Can't wait to hear if the swings or bouncies help out.
Now, I agree - go take a nap!

It's the exact same mouth! Will now look into prices and things, now worries!
Posted by: Lioness | 03 February 2005 at 08:45 PM
Wow. Now that I've seen the picture of M and Mini M and can easily pick him out in the picture of the two together.
Any pictures of Mom with baby/babies? :)
Posted by: Anabel | 03 February 2005 at 08:48 PM
Psst... you're suppose to sleep when they sleep! They are simply gorgeous and Adam looks like a little Marco! Sounds like their schedules are starting to fall into place. Kate crying at those hours leads me to think colic - only b/c my dd cried from 7:30 to midnight for months. I could set a clock by that child!
Posted by: Stefanie | 03 February 2005 at 08:52 PM
Mmm. Too bad I'll be a little old for Adam when he's 18. I mean, if he continues to resemble his daddy to such an extent. A damn shame.
:)
Yes, I came out of lurkdom to make lecherous comments about your husband and male-child :)

LADIES, I NEED YOUR HELP!
(T., you disregard this, your job is to feed and burp, we'll take care of all other details, NO WORRIES)
T. asked me to look into prices of the FP aquarium bouncer and bouncer seats, and how much it would cost to buy and ship there. I don't think we have them in Portugal and Amazon will not ship here bcs we're also 3rd world. Any ideas of how else it could be done? Ebay is certainly a thought but many sellers don't ship internationally.
Also, if there are any lurkers in Cape Town, could you call the number Serena gave for the fisher price ocean wonders aquarium cradle swing, 021 419 6040, and let me know how much it costs? Serena, do you know if they have a website?

Let's give those parents need to sleep!
TERTIA, YOU STAY OUT OF THIS. Worry your pretty little head not. We'll get you those magical aids somehow, PROMISE.
Posted by: Lioness | 03 February 2005 at 09:02 PM
Tertia-
My own first born would stay awake like Kate does in the evenings. We would have to walk him for hours on hours or he would cry. The swing really helped. Guess what? Her alertness is a sign of great intelligence. She is afraid to miss anything so she stays awake! So, I see you have found your Mini Me also. They sound great.
Posted by: Kim | 03 February 2005 at 09:03 PM
They're so beautiful and look so healthy. Keep up the great work, Mommy!
Posted by: Ninotchka | 03 February 2005 at 09:12 PM
They are gorgeous! And so big. And I still can't get over the mini outfits-- it's winteer here! :)

ALSO (SEE ABOVE IF YOU HAVEN'T READ MY COMMENT YET PLEASE):
could you take a look at the seats displayed here: http://www.babyandcompany.co.za/babyseat.html.
and let me know which ones you'd recommenf for Adam and Tertia, if any? (SallyM provided the URL)

Gorgeous babies, gorgeous husband. You lucky woman.
Posted by: Dianna | 03 February 2005 at 09:24 PM
Great pictures!! Adam does look a LOT like Marko.
Glad you had your mom around so you could get some sleep...get it whenever you can, girl. I can't believe they are already a month old!
Posted by: Sarah | 03 February 2005 at 09:30 PM
That first month is a milestone, and it's the hardest one. Adam and Kate are simply darling. Nap when you can.
Posted by: Barbara | 03 February 2005 at 09:51 PM
Oh my goodness, he is a mini Marko!!
Okay, now, like they said. Go lay down for God's sake.
Take care, it does get better.
Posted by: Melissa | 03 February 2005 at 10:19 PM
Okay, I'll admit it: I want to shag Marko. He looks even sexier holding a small, reduced-sized duplicate of himself.
Both babies are very gorgeous, though. Kate looks a lot like my Dana, I think.
Posted by: Mollie | 03 February 2005 at 10:22 PM
ALL SET, NO MORE NEED FOR HELP, Boulder came to the rescue - AGAIN! So effective, that woman, hats off!
Posted by: Lioness | 03 February 2005 at 10:43 PM
BEAUTIFUL BABIES!!! And that's one fine man you have there. Just so you know have a beauty of a dd that as long as your little boy doesn't mind a woman a few months older than he is. Since he's apparently going to be as good looking as his daddy is, she'll be available for boyfriends in about 16 years! Or never if it's up to her daddy. I wonder if she'll care that I began pimping her out this far in advance! :o)
PS: I live in a state where there's no sales tax and the average price is around $40. Don't know what it would cost to ship or if I even can but if you want my help, let me know!
Hope your getting more sleep Tertia!
Posted by: Lori | 03 February 2005 at 10:44 PM
that really is unreal - they are perfect duplicates. and i do have to admit that there is nothing sexier than a hot dad holding a baby. you guys are doing a fantastic job.
Posted by: katie e. | 03 February 2005 at 10:45 PM
Wow. I can't believe how similar they look. It's really remarkable. My husband and I keep trying to figure out who our Love Bug looks like, but, well, it's not totally clear. Wishing you more long naps!
Posted by: Monica | 03 February 2005 at 10:45 PM
Good gracious--Marko is a hottie!
And the babes are pretty darn cute too, albeit in a totally different way.
Posted by: Brooklyn Girl | 03 February 2005 at 10:51 PM
Oh my, they really do look alike! You are going to have to beat the girls off with a stick from that Adam! And Kate is just adorable! I hope you don't mind me posting this to you since we don't know each other but I've followed your story and it's so great to see your little ones! Adorable! I have twins too, they are 2.5 now and b/g too. Isn't sleep wonderful?
Posted by: Erica | 03 February 2005 at 10:51 PM
Handsome, handsome & beautiful!
(Marko, Adam & Kate!)
Now, about this taking pictures whilst they are sleeping, even I know that is not the way things should be done, darling. You need sleep more than you need pictures of them sleeping. Only pictures taken by others during their slumbering moments are allowed from now on. You worry about taking the pictures when you are all wide awake.
And I agree - can't we please see one of mum with babes?
xoxo

Hey, I read you're comment that Adam looked just like a mini marco, and I thought, yeah, right, babies just look like babies: She's in the delusional state of early parenthood. But, wow, you're right. He has that same droopy under eye thing happening, and their mouths are very similar. Weird. But, awesome, too, huh?

Their sleep last night sounds pretty good for where they are developmentally. It will only get better! I started working on "bedtime" routine by dimming the lights and softly playing a lullaby CD in the background at the time I wanted them to go to bed. Then I would change and feed to sleep and keep putting them down, soothing, putting down, soothing. It would take three hours to get both asleep, now we just turn down the lights, feed, and they are asleep and ready to go down in an hour.
Keep up the fantastic work!! More sleep coming soon, I promise!!!
Posted by: KatS | 03 February 2005 at 11:50 PM
They are both beautiful, and while it may not seem like it, it sounds like they are starting to fall into a routine. It WILL get better. PROMISE! You are doing a great job!
Posted by: Amy T | 03 February 2005 at 11:56 PM
Wow! Adam really IS Marko's mini-me! That is so cool. Handsome hubby BTW.
Posted by: Carrie Jo | 03 February 2005 at 11:58 PM
They are gorgeous (all 3 of them) If you got through the first 4 weeks, you can get through whatever comes next!
Posted by: Bridget | 04 February 2005 at 12:04 AM
Oh my goodness. The apple DOES NOT fall far from the tree!
My goodness they look like each other. Both are very very handsome.
And of course, you and your daughter are B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!
Posted by: Scully | 04 February 2005 at 12:06 AM
You have a very beautiful family, Tertia. Congratulations on all your blessings!
Posted by: eve | 04 February 2005 at 12:10 AM
You took the words right out of my mouth, Brooklyn Girl. Hottie, indeed.
Marko is a Damn Fine Man. Fits perfectly with the gorgeous babies and beautiful you!
Posted by: MollieBee | 04 February 2005 at 01:07 AM
I've never seen a baby that age that looks so much like his daddy!
Again, I can empathise with the sleep thing...my single baby was up every hour last night, as usual. Charming!
Posted by: Rachelle | 04 February 2005 at 01:12 AM
God, can you believe they were actually inside your stomach? Little miracles.
Posted by: Lily | 04 February 2005 at 01:36 AM
OMG he really does look like your DH.
Your daughter is the tallest looking 4 week old I have ever seen!
Posted by: ellen | 04 February 2005 at 01:59 AM
Wow, Marko's a babe. Hope ya don't mind me saying. And, yup, they even have the same hairline! geez.
Since A and K will be fully cooked tomorrow, watch for popping out belly buttons (PING!) a la Julie's post from today.
Posted by: Amy | 04 February 2005 at 03:21 AM
Gorgeous!!! The babies are, too.
Posted by: Janice | 04 February 2005 at 04:05 AM

xxoo,

While I think my own wee baby is perfect, I must admit that you have got two gorgeous kids on your hands.
Congrats again!
Posted by: Shannon | 04 February 2005 at 04:36 AM
Gorgeous. All of them, gorgeous.
Posted by: Rose | 04 February 2005 at 04:46 AM
They are beautiful, and Adam looks more like his daddy than my daughter does with her daddy, and that's saying something.
I don't know if you are talking also about the Ocean Wonders Aquarium that straps to the side of the crib and plays music, but I don't think I would have ever gotten any sleep without it. Somebody should nominate the inventor for a Nobel or something. Get it :-)
Posted by: Carrie | 04 February 2005 at 05:20 AM
that's amazing how much he looks like him! :D my son looks like me, so we're hoping to get a girl who looks like her dad! :D
Posted by: jenn | 04 February 2005 at 05:22 AM
Wow, that is so cool! I've never seen a baby with such distinctly identifiable familial features before!
And of course, just like a guy, look at how he's stretching out to take up ALL the room with Kate! Can't you just hear it now: "MO-OMMMMMMMM!!!! He's on MY siiiide!" :)

Posted by: projgen | 04 February 2005 at 06:38 AM
Wow! He DOES look just like his daddy! I've always thought that babies could have features like eye/hair color or skin tone that resembled one of their parents, but I've never seen a newborn that looked SO MUCH like his parent. You've got a future heartbreaker on your hands with that boy. And little miss Kate, well, she's breaking hearts already.
Posted by: Shylah | 04 February 2005 at 09:32 AM
Oooooh what cute babies you have. Four weeks old... amazing. I wish you would post-a-pic-a-day so we could keep up with their development... just an idea...
May I remind you of your fears they will not grow? and how that would mean what a bad bad mommie you are? May I ask you what kind of mother you are now, judging from their growth rate? I want to hear it loud and clear please!
Posted by: Lila | 04 February 2005 at 10:48 AM
Ag moeder, but the babies are cute! And the photo of Adam and Marko is amazing - so similar. Is Marko by any chance staring at his new TV? He seems to have that caveman-staring-into-fire look, or else he is just damn tired. And I won't comment on how attractive your hubby is! By the way, we have the exact same pram - really great. Hope you're well.
Posted by: ilse | 04 February 2005 at 12:48 PM
MArko is almost as gorgeous as the babies.
Posted by: Kristin | 05 February 2005 at 03:56 PM
Twins is a very scary proposition. I remember when my son whould cry for three hours straight and I would think "what if I had another one right now." Shudders. Of course I have a little bit of different perspective now, but that doesn't make twins any easier.
They are lovely children, so strong and healthy.
