A great scan!
Gestation: 31w3d.
Babies: Both babies measuring spot on, in fact above average (genius children). Adam is now a tiny bit bigger than Kate. Enough fluid, good Doppler flows, good looking children. The BEST news is that are both now 2 kg’s!! That’s 4.4 pounds to you ‘behind the times non-metric’ types. Kate is 1,963 kg’s (4.327 lb) and Adam is 2,080 kg’s (4.585 lb). The abdomens and femurs measure the same but Adam’s head is slightly bigger which accounts for the tiny weight difference (big headed, like his father) No wonder my cervix is taking strain with that big head pressing on it constantly. I got their report card with me. Adam is on the 86th percentile and Kate 74th percentile.
Cervix: Unfortunately shorter, now at 2cm. But Dr says it is to be expected. It is still closed which is good news. She said is unlikely I will go to term, but with good growth babies I am doing well. I am less worried about the cervix now. I am doing what I can, all I can do is hope it stays closed for a few more weeks.
Obviously I would like to go as far as I can (HBIJ!!) but it is a huge sense of relief to have made it to the 2kg mark. Marko has said that after Friday (when I will be 32 weeks) he is no longer going to stress out about the babies. I still want to get to January.
I am one happy camper today!!
As a treat my babies will dine on lemon meringue pie this evening.

Your children are obviously bloody brilliant! And fat! And I laugh at the idea of Marko no longer stressing about the babies--tell him good luck. I'm sure it'll last until the first of them staggers across the living room, directly into the sharp corner of the coffee table. At which point he'll buy one of those kid-leashes.

I have been reading your blog from down-under (Western Australia) for a while now and I just wanted to say how excited I am getting for you, as well as that I keep everything crossed for you & look forward to your updates. Keep on taking care of yourself and your precious babies. x

This is why I love mondays! :) I love hearing all is well with Kate and Adam.
Only 4 more days til the magical 32 week mark. HBIJ!

TWO KILOS!!! Bloody fabulous news, my foul-mouthed Dahling! I was a preemie myself at 7,5 months and 2,100 kg, didn't even need the incubator because I screamed my head off and was generally lively and entertaining (whaaat? You're surprised?). Your kids are EXACTLY like you, SHOW-OFFS, the pair of them. But. Are they reading YET? Oooh, so sorry... I'm sure they'll be alright though... Eventually...
PS - How MANY times need I tell you, it's assholette!

Hurrah! Glad things are looking so good. When the magic day arrives, I promise I will send congratulations on the proper schedule!

Here's a bit of trivia for you: the plural of "femur" is "femora". Go figure.
Posted by: Princess K | 06 December 2004 at 03:58 PM
That's because of Latin, Princ. K, femur but femoral artery, thorax but thoracic and a few such others. [Are you listening to this, children? You never know when it'll be helpful. In fact, surprise Mummy and have your 1st words be Fungus AND Fungi, respectively, go on.]
Posted by: Lioness | 06 December 2004 at 04:12 PM
Bloody mah'velous, darling. You are going to take home some babies!!!!!
Posted by: lorrie | 06 December 2004 at 04:17 PM
As a prehistoric American, I THANK you for converting your metrics into measurements I understand. I'm so cave-ish, I don't even know the conversion! 4.4 pounds...WHAHOOOO!!!
Is it wierd that come Sunday night, I can't wait to log on to my computer Monday morning so I can check your update?? First thing I do at work every Monday. I'm so productive!!!
Posted by: Cory | 06 December 2004 at 04:17 PM
Good weights! beat my 32 week girls already!! Keeping most things crossed for you
Posted by: Jean | 06 December 2004 at 04:25 PM
Such great news! I check on you often and each monday when you have great news it buts a huge smile on my face. Your babies sound amazing. Over four pounds (and thanks for the conversion as I had no clue) is great!
Posted by: Erica | 06 December 2004 at 04:27 PM
Like Cory, my first task at work on Monday mornings is to
1. Check Tertia's update - big smile
2. Get cup of Coffee
3. Yawn
4. Answer damn phone
Bravo! Brava!! Well done little ones! Well Done SuperMum!
I feel quite sure Adam and Kate will come out with the innate ability to type, so They are Charlie can post up updates when their mums are too busy.

Tertia,
So happy for you. I am also starting to get sad for us. Pretty soon we will start to get excuses, "couldn't blog for a week because Kate was teething, Adam just had his shots, like my babies more than you, blah, blah, blah"
Lucky babies.

Ooh, good update! Are you feeling as cow-ish as I imagine, seeing as how you've got two in there, each the size of my one?
I'm so excited by your progress! HBIJ!
Posted by: Julia | 06 December 2004 at 04:54 PM
Good Monday to us all! What great weights - those babies are indeed smart! I was 4lbs 10 oz (sorry, you'll have to convert that) and I turned out OK - or at least I think I'm OK!
Posted by: Stefanie | 06 December 2004 at 04:56 PM
Hooray!! This is the perfect way to start the week. Three cheers for little Adam and Kate. They know how to make their momma proud!
Posted by: lobster girl | 06 December 2004 at 04:57 PM
Hooray! I just knew it'd be another fantastic update, Tertia. Pleasantly surprised to hear that the doc didn't mention hospitalizing you! Only a few days until 32 weeks... after that, all icing on the cake!
You are doing fabulous, my friend. Enjoy that pie, and have some extra for me! ;-)
Love,
Jennifer

Another Canadian doing a happy dance in the bloody freezing cold weather (-21C this morning).
I'm so happy for you.
And I'm holding for January as well.
Excellent report card!

Wow! Those are some big babies. My girls were 3 lbs 9 ozs and 3 lbs 14 ozs when they were born at 31 weeks. At my NICU, they let babies go home at 4 pounds if all else is well. I think you really will make it to January. And even if you don't, you've already made it 1/4 through December, no small thing. You are so close to 32 weeks, a huge milestone. Don't you just feel more weight lifting off your shoulders (and going right to your belly) with each passing day? I'm so happy for you.
Posted by: j | 06 December 2004 at 05:13 PM
Yippee! So relieved for you.
My husband and his twin were both 4 pounds, and have grown into lovely big, tall men (especially mine, who is way cuter, of course).
Best wishes for a lovely uneventful week. And you are still at home. How fantastic!!
Posted by: karyn | 06 December 2004 at 05:14 PM
Brilliant kids indeed! Congratulations on the wonderful news : )
Posted by: Menita | 06 December 2004 at 05:16 PM
I work in dialysis (in the US), and for some reason we use only kg. When a patient asks how many pounds they weight we all stare blankly at each other, and then whip out the calculators! So I know exactly how much 2 kg is, and it's FANTASTIC! My husband was born at term weighing 2 kg, w/no problems. Hope you have a really boring, uneventful week!
Posted by: Abby | 06 December 2004 at 05:19 PM
Those babies are huge! I'm so happy & excited for you . . .
Posted by: Melanie | 06 December 2004 at 05:19 PM

Fabulous news! I hope all of you enjoyed your pie! Obviously the good growth is due to your dessert consumption, right? Perhaps Julie's genius baby can prepare some gourmet confections for his future playmates?
Posted by: ValleyGal | 06 December 2004 at 05:50 PM
I am so delighted to hear this news! It's made my day, truly.
Continue the good gestating habits Tertia and it'll be January before you know it. ;-)
So exciting!

Assholettes: What T's babies will be placed in when they're born.
YAY!
Posted by: AB | 06 December 2004 at 06:13 PM
Woo, I'm so happy they're doing so well.
And I hope they make it to January too. If they're born in December they'll have those dreaded "Christmas Birthdays" those kids always get shafted present wise.
;)
Posted by: Stacey | 06 December 2004 at 06:27 PM
Wouldn't that be a wonderful start to the new year? Maybe having the babies Jan 1st? It's a good goal... Awesome news Tertia! Good, clever babies :o)
Posted by: Carrie Jo | 06 December 2004 at 07:05 PM
What giant babies you have! Absolutely tremendous.
Posted by: Wavery | 06 December 2004 at 07:06 PM
See I TOLD you I bet they were 4.5 lbs each!!!!! I'm overjoyed for you! Now my next bet is your due date. I'm betting it's Christmas Eve. That would such a perfect ending to your trials and tribulations. OR..New Years eve at 12:01..do they give you as much stuff over there for having the first baby of the new year as they do over here in the US?
I cant even tell you how happy I am for you.
Posted by: Luann | 06 December 2004 at 07:15 PM
Great news!
I'm so glad you got such a good report!
Also glad I came by to read it - it makes a gloomy rainy Monday a brighter day.
Sending Jan. thoughts your way...

C'mon January!
Posted by: JJ | 06 December 2004 at 07:39 PM
Well. Very nice update.
And THANKS SO V MUCH FOR LETTING US KNOW WHAT THE DOCTOR SAID ABOUT YOUR EFFIN FINGERS.
Posted by: blackbird | 06 December 2004 at 07:46 PM
Sounds like you've got a couple of right nice plump chickens in your belly, ready to hatch. But yes, go ahead, keep sitting on them and keeping them warm.
Are you sure the tiny weight difference isn't due to Adam's giant nose?
Love you and your hugely viable tots.
Posted by: Mollie | 06 December 2004 at 07:56 PM
So very happy with this news!
Aren't you glad you don't have to birth Adam with his huge noggin? My daughter has always had a massive head compared to the rest of her body, and I'm so glad I was spared having to push her out of me!!!
"Babies in January" doesn't sound like such a distant wish anymore. It's mere weeks! You'll be holding those little tykes very soon, and sleeping peacefully with a non-irritable bladder/ute (only to be woken up multiple times with VERY emphatic feeding requests)
Posted by: Susy | 06 December 2004 at 07:57 PM
AB, THAT was bloody brilliant!!! :DDD
Posted by: Lioness | 06 December 2004 at 08:09 PM
As another future mom who happens to be on bed rest I have been watching what all is happening to you for a few weeks now. I wish you and Marko as well as Adam and Kate the best in getting to January.
I am really happy for you.
Best wishes from Arizona,
Blair

Dearest Kate & Adam,
I'm certain that you've all mastered reading by now, but since it is dark and warm I'll ask your mum to pass on how thrilled we all are with your taking care of yourselves and your mum. Thank you for staying put so long. I know that you are probably quite excited about the prospect of Christmas upcoming, but want you to know that really, Christmas 2005 is where it is at, so please feel free to cuddle up and enjoy this time with your mum & know that there will be plenty of time to celebrate next year, k? And your new BF Charlie will be happy to take notes and pass along anything you need to know for next year. Now, if you could refrain from too much strain on mum's cervix, that would be fab. But, if you could just let her know that you are doing ok with the occassional stretch, well, that would be wonderful too. Looking forward to seeing you beautiful, brilliant babies in January.
xoxo

So glad that things are going well. You're on your way to 9lb babies!!! (Not sure how that equates to the metric system).
Tell that cervix to stay closed...your buns need a bit more browning!

Yay, such happy news! I'm another one that must check your site first each Monday to see the check-up. Go babies!
Posted by: MistyD | 06 December 2004 at 09:48 PM
I really hope for your sake that your children are not roughly 2000 kg each - that translates into 909 lbs per child. ;-p
My son was born at 35 weeks thanks to HELLP weighing in at 2022 grams, or 4.7 lbs. He's gorgeous. And healthy.
