The last time I was this excited about something was when we had a grey water system installed in my previous house a few years ago. Unfortunately our current house doesn't support a grey water system (plus we don't have very much garden at all). Also, the closest I am going to get to Christian Grey is a Grey water system. Sigh.
This time it is something that is as exciting, and something I can share with other people. I was in the market for a something like this (although I didn't know it existed before) so when the PR company contacted me and asked me to review it, I was like "yes please"
Just as an aside: Like most bloggers, I get requests on an almost daily basis to review products on my blog. I almost never say yes because imagine how boring that would be for you! Plus I don't have the time to write up reviews. (Even though the free gifts would be cool). I only do reviews for people I know and if it is something I am interested in and I think you would benefit from.
On that note, Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce you to The Spindel: Sexier and more arousing than 50 Shades of Grey and much less embarrassing to admit you own.
This product is AWESOME! I am beyond excited about it, seriously. And so is Rose. We both stare at it whenever we use it which is EVERY SINGLE DAY. My husband just laughs at me when I tell him for the 10th time how amazing this thing is.
Ok, so what is it...
In layman's terms, it is a thing (machine) that takes the water out of your just washed clothes by spinning the clothes around really fast in the machine. Much faster than your washing machine. It removes the water by centrifugal force, not by heating. There is no heating element which means you can use it to remove water from any fabric, even your delicate bits and bobs.
I know you overseas folk dry your stuff in dryers, but here in South Africa we dry our clothes outside (smells so much better and is much cheaper / more eco friendly). The problem is in Cape Town where I live, the winters are cold and wet. You can't hand the washing outside and so we hang it in the garage and on the veranda. It takes forever to dry. We leave it there for two days and then we put it in the dryer to dry the last bit. It's a pain and it takes forever. And we do a LOT of washing. I have a ginormous washing machine and we do at least one wash a day. There are six of us living in this house.
The washing machine obviously spins the clothes at the end of the cycle, but I had no idea how much water was still left in the clothes until I used the Spindel. That's the best part - watching this little machine go and seeing the water come pouring out into the plastic dish we put under the spout. Seriously, Rose and I stand there and stare at it. We have very sad lives.
Because the Spindel is small and my washing machine is huge, I have to split load into three. But it only takes three minutes per spin. And you can put anything in it - sheets, towels, clothes, jerseys - anything. The washing now takes super quick to dry because it is almost dry when you take it out the Spindel.
The bonus is that it is very green - for the environment (useless less than a light bulb burning for 15 mins) and very green for your pocket. Electricity is getting so damn expensive here in SA.
God, I love this product. It is just so damn clever!! I am going to buy a few as gifts too.

What is Spindel?
Spindel is a specialist laundry spin dryer that uses centrifugal force instead of heat to quickly remove excess moisture from laundry. It also extracts residual detergent and mineral deposits from the fabric, so laundry dries cleaner and feels better too! Spindel can be used with machine or hand-washed laundry and is safe for all fabrics.
SPIN DRYING POWER
- Removes up to 80% of moisture from laundry in just 3 minutes
HEAT FREE DRYING
- Highly energy efficient
- Reduced damage to fabrics
Why use Spindel?
- Air dry laundry in a fraction of the time
- Certain fabrics can be ironed immediately
- Uses up to 99% less electricity than tumble drying
- Lower impact on the environment
- Removes detergent residue that can damage fabrics,
fade colours and cause skin allergies
- Reduced sun and heat damage
How does it work?
Simply load the wet laundry, turn the switch on and watch the water pour through the spout. The stainless steel inner drum accelerates up to 2 800 revolutions per minute, extracting the majority of the residual moisture without damaging even the most delicate fabrics.
After the 3 minute cycle is complete you can:
Air dry your laundry in a fraction of the time,
Iron certain fabrics immediately (i.e. fabrics with synthetic fibre), or
Run a significantly shorter cycle in the tumble dryer to save energy and reduce heat damage.
